TAKASHI - Best in Salt Lake City

This is not only our humble opinion - last year, 2007, Salt Lake City Magazine rated them #1. Takashi is the name of the sushi chef and owner. Here, everything you get is beautiful and so, so good. Of course, get the sushi here. My favorite was the Carribbean Roll. The rainbow roll is also really good and gives you variety. Even if you're not a sushi-eater (and I bet they could convert you) there are lots of delicious things here. The flank steak is particularly great. For desert we had the chocolate tort (from heaven) with coconut ice cream-- oh, so good. Can be pricey if you indulge, or you can get lunch for $10-15. The atmosphere is hip, with a huge metal fish hung from the ceiling.

Wasatch Pizza - For BBQ Pizza, Yum!

Salt Lake City - Wasatch is pick-up or delivery. We love their BBQ Pizza - very delish. Wasatch has a great rustic crust. Besides the BBQ Chicken, our new fave is their Tomato Garlic. It's really nice, trust us. Also good is the La Sal, with Chicken, Artichokes, Sundried Tomatoes with white sauce. Their garlic bread is okay. If you're looking for pizza that's a little more gourmet and not so greasy, Wasatch Pizza is great. (If you're looking for greasy pizza (and I'm not saying that's a bad thing) try The Pie Pizza.) Wasatch has 2-for-1 or 50% off coupons in the Happenings book.

Rickenbacker's Bistro- Soooo Good! Celebrate Here!

Our favorite - and we think - the best restaurant in the Ogden area. It's located on the South end of the Ogden Airport, and overlooks the runway, which is actually really cool. The restaurant is airplane/flying aces themed. Very fun, but also very nice. A great spot for a special dinner. (We went there for our last anniversary.) The pistachio-crusted halibut is to die for, as are the dinner rolls. I loved the cheese and fruit appetizer, as well as the calimari. The pear and gorgonzola salad was really good. We tried and liked the clam chowder and the chicken tortilla soup- liked it more. The stuffed pork chops were pretty good - I love to order new things - but I'm going back to the halibut next time. Desserts all great - we tried many of them. Highly recommended, great food, great atmosphere. (Hint: The 2008 Happenings Book has a 2 for 1 coupon, up to $25.) Love Rickenbackers!

Coming to this blog

Just starting this Dining Out In Utah blog of good (or bad) restaurants around this place. Eating out can be a bit of a gamble (which we kinda like) but hopefully this will be helpful for you non-gambling types. We'll tell you what we liked, where, and why (or why not!) we'll be returning. Check back soon!
